Rally for Trans Visibility, Theatre Teachers and Diversity in Books

  • Luther Jackson Middle School 3020 Gallows Road Falls Church, VA, 22042 United States (map)

FCPS Pride and allies are rallying at the Fairfax County Schoolboard meeting at Luther Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Rd, Merrifield, VA 22042 (closest metro is Dunn Loring on the Orange Line) in support of Trans Visibility and the Trans Day of Visibility, the theater arts, and to call for and to the attempts to suppress book diversity in Virginia schools

Last week, FCPS were sued by a student represented by the fascist attorney Stephen Miller and his firm seeking to block the current policies and rules protecting LGBTQIA+ students from harassment and bullying; alleging that rules prohibiting the malicious misgendering and dead naming of trans students violate the right to freely practice their religion.

Governor Youngkin and others have sought to put in place policies that harm LGBTQIA+ youth as well as stifling access to books and information that provide representation and diversity in voices across race, ethnicity, and gender and sexual identities. They are also trying to cut one of the few safe havens for marginalized students in the schools, the theatre programs. We will be rallying in support for the FCPS trans and theatre communities as well as supporting access to representation in literature.

Metro DC DSA will be out in full support as part of our Trans Rights & Bodily Autonomy campaign, standing in allied solidarity with the community as they show up to declare that they will NOT let hate and fascism win; calling on the school board to stand with the community and to fight for our rights and dignity.

Come out wearing your DSA merch and Pride gear to stand with all of us as we say, "No more, we are here, we will always be here, and you will not take our rightful place away from us!"

We will have transportation assistance for those that need assistance getting from the metro to the rally.
