All across the DMV area, thousands of people languish in jails because they cannot afford bail or because their bail for previously bondable charges has been revoked.
Black mamas –– whether biological mother or mothers of communities –– are critical sustainers of families. Those families suffer when mamas are jailed, needlessly, simply because they cannot afford bail. And the work does not stop after bail, we must remain in community with one another and support each other.
Join us for the Black Girl Magic Art Exhibition! We are loving on previously bailed out Mamas and our new Mamas. A seasoned artist will guide our beginner artists through a painting or participants can freestyle. It's all about having fun and doing what you're comfortable expressing. Mamas can express themselves by painting canvas, painting glasses, or making jewelry.
For those who plan to volunteer we will need help with set up at 1:30, break down at 4:30, and serving food during the event. See you all on May 6th!
