Street Law 101: Summer Surge Survival Training

  • Black Workers & Wellness Center 2500 Martin Luther King Junior Avenue Southeast Washington, District of Columbia, 20020 United States (map)

Ahead of a planned surge of the National Guard, federal and DC police, including ICE, across DC's Black neighborhoods, join the DC COLLAB for a special Street Law 101: Summer Surge Survival Training.

This interactive training will help community members, families, organizers, and young people understand what to expect, how increased policing may further impact our neighborhoods, and what rights we have when interacting with cops.

You will learn:

  • Your rights during police encounters, stops, frisks, and searches, and how things actually happen in the streets

  • The increased impact on young people and communities of color

  • What to do if you witness police abuse

  • How to document police activity

  • Community-based strategies for protection, support, and rapid response

  • Ways to get involved in building community safety beyond policing

These are critical skills for the People's Self-Defense Network that we are building together. We must strengthen our collective ability, while developing the knowledge, relationships, and skills our communities need to stay safe.

Whether you're brand new to this work or have been organizing for years, this training will provide practical tools you can use immediately.

Protection is a practice. Community is our strategy. Come build the People's Self-Defense Network with us.
