National Nurses United Community Forum

  • The People's Church 4704 13th Street Northwest Washington, District of Columbia, 20011 United States (map)

On July 26, 2026, MedStar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC) closed postpartum unit 5F, eliminating 11 vital maternal health beds. 1 out of every 3 babies in DC is delivered at MWHC and this reckless decision by hospital management will only further exacerbate our city's maternal health crisis.

DSA members will join nurses from MWHC and other members of the DC community at the People's Church on September 9th 5pm-7pm for a community forum on protecting DC maternal health, fighting Medicaid cuts, and winning a healthcare system that works for us all. Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, Democratic Nominee for DC Mayor, will be joined by a panel of health experts for a discussion and Q&A.

Discussion topics will include:

  • Protecting Maternal Healthcare in DC

  • City & Federal Healthcare Cuts

  • Creating a Better Healthcare System

  • and more!
