Lunch and learn: Congress forcing cash bail on DC

Last year was unprecedented in the number of attacks from the federal government on DC’s autonomy and right to self-governance. Unfortunately, the attacks continue. DC Justice Lab will continue to work with local and national partners to protect the local laws and policies that are evidence-based, effective, and enacted by DC residents and our elected officials. This month, we’re partnering with Tzedek DC to continue to educate our community about these threats.

Join us for a virtual lunch-and-learn session on March 27 at 12 pm to discuss Congressional efforts to impose cash bail on DC. DC’s existing system–which uses non-monetary conditions of release–has been in place for more than three decades, and is more effective than cash bail. Nevertheless, Congress wants to take DC backward to a wealth-based detention system that would harm residents.

Join us to learn more about cash bail, what it would mean for residents, and how Congress is seeking to force these policies on DC.
