Join Harriet's Wildest Dreams in conversation on the District's current mental health crisis response system. Come learn more about the People's Response Act (PRA) — a community-centered effort to put crisis response into our neighbors hands. The PRA is built with the intention to redefine what community safety looks like by limiting our loved ones' interaction with law enforcement in their most vulnerable moments. Through the DC Council's adoption of the PRA, concerned loved ones can begin to count on mental health professionals and community members as first responders in time of need.
What the PRA provides grant funding for: - Crisis Response & Community Safety: civilian first responders, community violence intervention, Offices of Neighborhood Safety 🏘️🏡 - Infrastructure and Public Spaces: infrastructural investment, investment in parks and green spaces 🌳🍃 - Restorative & Supportive Justice: trauma informed healing, restorative justice, re-entry programs ❤️🩹🫂 - Employment & Youth Development: community-based employment programs, after school enrichment programs, mentorship 🏫👩🏽🏫 - Health, Housing & Economic Stability: harm reduction based approach to treatment of mental health and substance use disorders, community public health services, vouchers for supportive housing, community land trusts, cooperatives, guaranteed basic income 🏥🪪
