Transit & Transition: A Free Coloring Book Release Event

  • Cafritz Foundation Theater, The Clarice 8270 Alumni Drive College Park, MD, 20742 United States (map)

Come make art with us at The Cafritz Foundation Theater in The Clarice as we celebrate the release of our new FREE coloring book! The coloring book tells the story of Riverdale residents navigating neighborhood changes and uncertainty brought on by the Purple Line development - and organizing for a positive future.

Doors will open at 5:45pm as we will start right at 6pm with a mini-documentary by Bethany Swain about the Healthy Places SEED Grant's work. Then, Transverse Cooperative Co-Founders Camila Tapia-Guilliams and Ellie Yanagisawa will host an artist talk about their process creating the coloring book and the role of art in community organizing. Finally, attendees will be provided with art materials to color the coloring book and get to discuss with other community members. Snacks and light refreshments will be provided. And yes, coloring books will be available for FREE pick-up!

This coloring book was created by Transverse Cooperative as part of a research project led by the Purple Line Corridor Coalition at UMD’s National Center for Smart Growth, the UMD Center for Health Equity, and the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. The project was completed in partnership with Greater Riverdale Thrives, the Latin American Youth Center, and Central Kenilworth Avenue Revitalization CDC, with generous support from the UMD School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, as well as the UMD School of Public Health.

Accessibility: Please reach out with any accessibility needs to the organizers at transverse.coop@gmail.com and we will do our best to accommodate you as we are figuring out the access of the space. Masks will be encouraged but not required. The event will be facilitated in English, and will be entirely in person.
