Presentations and a reception with young leaders with disabilities! Registration is encouraged for in-person attendance.
Join us in celebration of Disability Pride Month for presentations on emergency preparedness in the disability community with Disability EmpowHer Network (DEN)!
DEN is a one-of-a-kind organization that strives to empower girls with disabilities through mentoring and transformational learning experiences. They focus on providing opportunities to enhance leadership skills and confidence, while forming a community and together supporting young women with disabilities to live to their full potential. They believe that when disabled girls lead, we all succeed, which is why in 2021, DEN started the EmpowHer Camp experience to equip teenage girls with disabilities with the tools to lead in their lives, schools, and communities.
EmpowHer Camp is an opportunity for teenage girls with all types of disabilities between the ages of 13 and 18 to participate in a year-long mentoring and leadership experience. It starts with one week of adventurous camping in the Adirondacks, where campers explore nature, make friends, gain life skills, and laugh around the campfire. Young Leaders also connect with a new mentor, who will help them set and achieve goals for the upcoming year and learn from and bond with them. After the camping trip, with the help of their mentor, young leaders go home and work on a yearlong project on a topic of their choice focused on emergency preparedness for people with disabilities in their community. This summer, everyone reunites in Washington, D.C. where they will present their project, discussing what they achieved in their community with their project, why they chose their project topic, and what they learned throughout the year.
This event will also be live-streamed on the DCPL YouTube page.
