Eliminating Mandatory Minimums in D.C.

  • American University, Washington College of Law 4300 Nebraska Avenue Northwest Washington, DC, 20016 United States (map)

On behalf of DC Justice Lab, I invite you to our Eliminating Mandatory Minimums Campaign Launch Event! DC Justice Lab urges the DC Council to introduce a bill to eliminate mandatory minimums from the DC Code. Mandatory minimum sentences decrease public safety and increase mass incarceration. Legal experts, survivors, and 77% of DC residents agree it’s time for mandatory minimums to go!

Join us at American University’s Washington College of Law on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 5:30 PM for a screening of the documentary “The Vanishing Trial”, directed by Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM). A panel discussion featuring Sentencing Reform Advocate Alexandra Bailey, former Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Sahaf, and Reentry Coordinator Bryant Woodland will follow. The panel will touch on the harm and ineffectiveness of mandatory minimums from the perspective of survivors of harm and those sentenced to mandatory minimums.

Register to attend by May 26, 2024.
