On June 26th, let's gather in solidarity with groups across the globe in support of harm reduction at Freedom Plaza from 12:00-3:00 for a direct service resources fair and rally. ( @supportdontpunish )
Punishing people who use drugs (or experience homelessness, mental illness, who are poor, etc.) does not, has not, and will not effectively serve people who need support -- it causes harm, deepens wounds, destroys any prospect of trust, is deeply misinformed, widens resource disparity, and feeds stigma.
DecrimPovertyDC understands that two major ways we can meaningfully address the worsening overdose crisis, get people the help and resources they need, and change the way we approach drugs and people who use drugs are (1) removing criminal penalties for personal possession of drugs and (2) expanding harm reduction resources (like harm reduction centers with safe consumption).
JOIN the event as a direct service provider or mutual aid group (email info@decrimpovertydc.org).
ATTEND on June 26th! Fair and posters start at 12, rally at 2.
DONATE hygienic supplies and nonperishable food (link in bio).
SPEAK on your experiences being negatively impacted by drug criminalization.
