Organizing After Crisis with Stomp Out Slumlords | Socialist Night School

  • Hybrid Event 901 G Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20001 United States (map)

Stomp Out Slumlords has grown exponentially since the pandemic hit in 2020. What started out as Metro DC DSA's anti-eviction canvassing operation in 2017 has bloomed into a fighting tenants' union with organized buildings across the District and Maryland and Virginia suburbs.

SOS's February 2021 report reflected on how applying labor union methods—identifying real organic leaders, training a committee, and pushing—allowed them to grow rent strikes in some thirty buildings during the height of the pandemic, win real concessions from individual landlords, and raise general hell to get rent relief from the local and federal government. In the intervening two years, the immediate crisis has abated, tenants (really, landlords) got millions in rent relief, and policymakers pushed for things to return to normal.

Join core Stomp Out Slumlords organizers and tenant leaders for an evening talking about how they're not going to let that happen so easily.

This is a hybrid event. If you have questions or to request accommodations, please email politicaleducation@mdcdsa.org. Please make sure your COVID vaccinations are up to date. Masks strongly encouraged.
