We must defend and stand-up for our own, Transgender and non-Binary students and folks in Fairfax County and City.
The Virginia Department of Education under Glenn Youngkin failed to pass anti-trans legislation. SO, simply by declaring it, they have made schools unlivable for Transgender students, staff and families.
This cannot be. We will stand up a Rally/Protest and a March along Gallows Road.
The rally and protest will be at Luther Jackson Middle School at 3020 Gallows Rd. at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday August 15 followed by a march along Gallows Road.
Several local leaders and government institutions are taking promising action to support Trans students by specifying that no students should be "outed;" that students should not be bullied by deadnaming and misgendering; and that students should not be separated from others in restrooms and locker rooms simply because they are transgender or gender-expansive. These are the values of both the broader and the Queer communities in Fairfax City and County. Let's show the Governor what Fairfax will do!
There will be transportation available upon advanced request for folks with disabilities and other considerations (if its a car-ride, notice that morning is fine. If it includes transporting a large device or chair, a week's notice would help).
There may or may not be a virtual option.
Be aware that there will likely be media, and a small possibility of harassment from mean people (it's happened only four times in the past 25 years). Rallies are public, so photographs and video are allowed. We will take necessary precautions for the safety of our folks at the rally and march.
Join us, all people of good heart, all organizations that support Trans and other Queer people. This law and this assault can not be allowed to stand!
