Whether homeowner or renter — across race, class, and zip code — all of us in Montgomery County, with three of the top five most diverse cities in the nation, deserve the chance to put down roots in our communities. Regardless of who we are, we care about each other.
Yet since the expiration of temporary rent stabilization in May 2022, rent increases and evictions have skyrocketed in Montgomery County -- with 300 cases in rent court a week since the new year. Join Montgomery County DSA and our coalition partners in the HOME Act Coalition for a public hearing on two competing rent stabilization bills: the HOME Act (16-23) which would stabilize rent at a max of 3%, and the “Anti-Rent Gouging” Bill (15-23) which would codify unaffordable, double-digit rent increases.
There will be two public hearing sessions for both bills: an afternoon session at 1:30 PM, with about 10 speaker slots, and a longer evening hearing at 7:00 PM with approximately 30-40 speaker slots.
You can join us in person at the County Council building in Rockville for the afternoon and/or evening sessions, or join us virtually on Zoom for the evening session.
