5th Annual Basic Income Day of Action and March

  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library 501 G Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20001 United States (map)

You’re invited to join us for the 5th Annual Basic Income Day of Action and March on September 21st @ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.  After a 2021 March and Rally, a 2022 Petition Delivery, this year, we want to lean into education and leverage the powerful tools of culture change we already have in our community!

Films have been an amazing resource for movements to start conversations, change hearts and minds, and connect everyday people to a movement and the ideas behind them. Help us to fight for an economy that works for all of us.

The world needs guaranteed basic income, let’s spread the word and grow the movement.

ABOUT THE FILM

The film follows Ruby Duncan after losing her job as a hotel worker in Las Vegas, she joined a welfare rights group composed of mothers who defied notions of the “welfare queen.” In a fight for guaranteed income, Ruby and other equality activists took on the Nevada mob in organizing a massive protest that shut down Caesars Palace.

The goals of Storming Caesar’s Palace are to:

  • Counter the erasure of Black women’s contributions and restore dignity, celebrating their role in historic anti-poverty movements

  • Foster dialogue around efforts to transform the low- wage economy

  • Forge intergenerational connections among BIPOC and women-led organizations and communities

  • Empower a new generation of grassroots leaders
