Housing and Displacement: DC Walking Your will explore 3 sites in Brightwood Park connected to racism and profit in real estate practices- then and now. The Housing and Displacement Walking Tour will connect the area's history to contemporary housing struggles and issues related to policing and mass incarceration -and how to organize to put an end to these practices.
The Tour will be led by Tanya Golash-Boza, who grew up in the neighborhood and whose groundbreaking research documents neighborhood change in DC; and by Maya Cherkasky, co-founder of both the historical research firm Prologue DC and the digital public history project Mapping Segregation in Washington DC.
The tour will meet at 15 Kennedy St. NW at 1:00 p.m., and the final stop will conclude at 3:00 p.m. further west in the neighborhood, followed by a happy hour afterward at a local establishment. Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the tour. Sign up and indicate your ability to volunteer to help the Walking Tour the day-of or in advance.
The Housing and Displacement DC Walking Tour is hosted by Metro DC DSA and its Stomp Out Slumlords Working Group.
